OPTIONS
Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Services (CDPAS)

If most people don’t plan to go into nursing facilities… then why are there 160,000 New Yorkers living in them?

Options/CDPAS provides a unique alternative to traditional attendant care that gives self-directing persons with disabilities the opportunity to take charge of the services they receive.

Options/CDPAS is made possible through Independent Living, Inc. in cooperation with the local Departments of Social Services in Orange, Green, Putnam, Sullivan and Ulster Counties and the CASA Office in Dutchess County

BENEFITS

  • Options/CDPAS puts YOU in control.
  • YOU decide WHO you employ for personal assistant services.
  • YOU decide when work is scheduled.
  • YOU do the training

After all…who knows better than you, what you really need?

IS "CONSUMER DIRECTED" THE RIGHT CHOICE FOR ME?

If you are an informed person who is able and willing to assess your own needs and determine how and by whom those needs should be met, you are probably a good candidate for this program. Ask yourself:

  • Do I have the ability to monitor the quality of service I receive?
  • Am I able to understand the consequences of my choices?
  • Do I accept responsibility for the decisions I make?

To put it simply, Options/CDPAS as a contracted provider for the Department of Social Services (DSS), enables you , or the person or persons you designate to recruit, interview, hire, train and dismiss your Personal Assistants.  The Options/CDPAS program eliminates the function of a traditional licensed agency that sets your schedule and provides aides from their staff.

Once you are deemed eligible by the DSS, you can participate in consumer directed services and by doing so, you will agree to take full responsibility for the management of all the Personal Assistants who provide care and service to you.

WHAT MUST I DO TO PARTICIPATE?

  • You must have Medicaid.
  • You must be eligible to receive personal assistant Level of Care.
  • You must present self-directing skills to the DSS or CASA Caseworker and Public Health Nurse
  • You must notify your caseworker at the Department of Social Services or CASA that you are interested in Consumer Directed Personal Assistance as the means of receiving your home care services.
  • You must also request an intake interview with an Options staff person to complete and sign the necessary forms, and wait for approval before receiving services.

How do you become part of Options Personal Assistant Program?

Contact our helpful staff (845) 565-1162 Ext 217 to request an Options Program Manual.
